NAJC exists to strengthen and support Jewish chaplains worldwide. We provide certification, education, mentorship, and advocacy—creating a sacred community where chaplains can develop their skills, deepen their service, and uphold the highest ethical standards.

NAJC was founded as the National Association of Jewish Chaplains, establishing itself as the address for Jewish chaplaincy expertise.
Our Story
In 2014, we chose a new name to reflect our international membership and our commitment to caring for the human spirit. NAJC became Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains.
Our Story
In Hebrew, Neshama (נְשָׁמָה) means “soul” or “breath;” it represents the divine spark God breathed into each of us at creation. We chose the name because, as chaplains, we are called to meet people in their most vulnerable moments with presence, compassion, and an unwavering recognition of their God-given worth and dignity.
